Privacy policy
How Makosch Africa handles personal information on this website.
1. Who we are
This website, makoschafrica.com, is operated by FX Consulting Services (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/251406/07, trading as Makosch Africa, 43 Camps Bay Drive, Cape Town, 8005, South Africa (“Makosch Africa”, “we”, “us”). We are the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
For questions or requests about your personal information, including for our Information Officer, contact us at ben@makoschafrica.com or +27 (0) 79 279 5762.
2. What this policy covers
This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, who receives it and what rights you have. It does not cover other websites we link to.
3. Visiting the website
When you visit, your browser sends technical information to our hosting provider, such as your IP address, the page requested, the date and time and your browser type. This is needed to deliver the pages and to keep the website secure. We do not use it to identify you.
We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and we set no cookies of our own. Fonts and images are served from our own website. The only content loaded from another provider is our booking calendar (section 6).
4. The complimentary FX analysis
If you request an analysis of a transaction, we receive the details you enter: the date the rate was agreed and, if you add them, the time and time zone; the currencies; the amount you sold; the amount you received and/or your exchange rate; your email address and, if you provide it, your phone number. If you then ask for the analysis by email, we receive that request as well.
We use these details only to prepare your analysis, to send it to you or discuss it with you on a call, and to answer your questions about it.
5. Messages through “Let’s talk”
If you send us a message, we receive your name and email address and, if you provide them, your phone number, company and message, together with your confirmation that we may contact you about your enquiry. We use these details to respond to your enquiry.
6. Booking a call
Our booking calendar is provided by HubSpot, Inc. It is loaded from HubSpot’s servers on our contact page, when you open a booking button and after you have sent a transaction for analysis; it may already start loading when you point at a booking button. HubSpot then receives technical information such as your IP address and browser type, and may use cookies or similar technologies to make the calendar work.
If you book a call, HubSpot receives the details you enter, such as your name, email address and the time you choose, and sends the booking confirmation. If you open the calendar after requesting an analysis, the email address you entered for the analysis is filled in for you. We use these details to hold the call. HubSpot’s own privacy policy is available at legal.hubspot.com/privacy-policy.
7. Why we may process your information
We process the information you send us with your consent and because it is needed to take the steps you ask of us, such as preparing an analysis, arranging a call or answering an enquiry (section 11(1)(a) and (b) POPIA). You can withdraw your consent at any time. Technical information about visits, including when the booking calendar loads, is processed in our legitimate interest in providing a secure website and a simple way to book a call (section 11(1)(f) POPIA).
8. Who receives your information
- Our website host, Netlify, Inc. (United States). Netlify delivers the website and receives and stores the forms you submit, which are then forwarded to us by email.
- HubSpot, Inc. (United States), which provides our booking calendar and stores the calls you book.
- Our email and IT service providers, who help us store and manage our correspondence.
We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising. We disclose it to others only where the law requires us to.
9. Information sent outside South Africa
Netlify and HubSpot process information in the United States, the European Union and other countries. Where personal information is transferred outside South Africa, we rely on service providers that are bound by agreements providing a level of protection comparable to POPIA (section 72 POPIA).
10. How long we keep it
We keep enquiries, analysis requests and booked calls for as long as we need them to deal with your request and any follow-up. After that we keep them only where the law requires us to or where we need them to establish or defend legal claims. Our host keeps technical server logs for short periods only.
11. Security
The website is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). We take appropriate, reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, damage and unauthorised access.
12. Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you and request access to it;
- ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading or obtained unlawfully;
- object to the processing of your information on reasonable grounds;
- withdraw your consent at any time;
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa), whose current contact details are published at inforegulator.org.za.
To exercise your rights, email ben@makoschafrica.com. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act on a request.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our website or the way we process personal information changes. The current version is always published on this page, with the date it was last updated.
